Directed by: Tim Burton
Grade: C
Though undeniably very successful as a recuperating production for the market of superhero films, and for reinvigorating interest into the Caped Crusader, Burton’s 1989 Batman is otherwise a mostly dull, lazy and slow moving film that should be reserved for the most serious of those Batman fans. I found some of the gags and yarns pulled off by Nicholson’s interpretation of the Joker to uplift a few chuckles throughout the picture, but ultimately Burton has Batman pushed to the sidelines with the majority of attention transferred to the villains—and as a result we don’t really know who to root for.
