Casablanca (1942, PG)

Directed by: Michael Curtiz

Grade: A

Could it be true that Casablanca is the best-loved American classic of all time?  Honestly, I can’t say between Casablanca or Gone with the Wind, both of which are truly great motion pictures on any scale.  This is a review for Casablanca, a movie which has made it to my list of Significant Films, a rare feat to achieve for any movie on my terms.

It’s pretty impressive when I think on the subject, because I haven’t seen any other movie that has been able to pack so much into a smaller running time (100 minutes).  Casablanca is a memorable movie as well as actually a nearly perfect one, which undoubtedly makes it a treasured film, which in turn would be why it is rightfully deemed an American classic.

When I think of Casablanca, there’s always that one other question that pops into my mind.  Is Casablanca the greatest movie of all time?  It’s certainly one of the greatest.  It arguably has the best screenplay ever written for sure.  But that same question always returns to my mind.  I’ll have to dwell on that, as there are quite a few other films that run right along in line as Casablanca.  For a seriously aged movie, Casablanca manages to be such a captivating experience, and fully deserves to be found on any best of all time list! A
