Directed by: Kenneth Branagh
Grade: C—
I find it very disappointing to state that Branagh's Thor is a Marvel superhero comicbook film that had great potential in it's artistic merits, and yet helplessly surrendered it's chances at making a good film, instead shooting for a much more recognizeable, traditional plotline. Indeed, the film's visual effects of Asgard are incredibly genuine, and a sight to see in the film's opening, 30-minute prologue (after that, we get used to them). In my opinion, Thor is an complete waste of time for Branagh, a very talented movie actor and director. The principal problem with this film is the departments in storytelling and acting. Even as an origin story, Thor fails to work because the characters lack comprehensive defintion and the plot is, as much as I hate to use this word for any reasons, cliched. Lately, I have noticed that superhero films in general, for whatever they are worth, have been descending in value quite substantially, and by all means, Thor is no exception.
